One of our most popular Township events, Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Day, will take place Saturday, October 1, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is a great opportunity for residents to dispose of household chemicals such as motor oil and other hazardous materials that can’t be poured down the drain or placed in the regular trash. Residents often ask if they can bring latex and oil based paint, fluorescent light bulbs/PBC ballasts, household batteries and automotive batteries, gasoline, fire extinguishers, medical sharps (must be in rigid, puncture resistant container with lid, e.g. coffee can, detergent bottle, milk jug, etc.), and old tires. All these items CAN be brought to Hazardous Waste Day. See a list of accepted items. The Township also has a household battery drop box in the lobby of Township Hall, available 24/7.
This event, open to residents only, will typically draw around 1,500 cars dropping off hazardous waste. As to be expected, such a large turnout can cause long lines. Staff hustles to keep the cars moving to ensure all can participate.
Some things to know before you arrive: There will be two entrances to the event, south onto Andover Road from Long Lake Road or west onto Andover Road from southbound Telegraph. Have your ID out and ready to show volunteers. Stay in your vehicle. Volunteers will unload everything from your car.
See you there!
